The Indefinite Integral

The differential equation

$\displaystyle \frac{dy}{dx}=f(x)$

may be rewritten as

$\displaystyle dy=f(x) dx.$

The operation of solving this equation is called antidifferentiation or indefinite integration. The general solution is denoted

$\displaystyle y=\int f(x) dx=F(x)+C.$
